Rizong Tamang from Darjeeling district secured two gold medals at the 26th Official State Championship held on April 13-14 at Almon Das Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. This event attracted top players from all districts, competing for the state title. Tamang emerged victorious, earning the title of Best in West Bengal State Champion once again. With these gold medals in individual and team kata, he now holds a total of nine official state medals. This accomplishment establishes him as the highest-ranked player in Darjeeling district, with no other player achieving nine consecutive medals in official state championships like Tamang.

After his win, Tamang expressed his gratitude, stating, “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my father, Mr. Sangay Tamang, and my late mother, Lucky Tamang.” He also extended his thanks to his karate coach, Hanshi Premjit Sen, and Shihan Anil Rai, whom he considers father figures in his life. Reflecting on his journey, Tamang added, “I never imagined reaching these heights. Thanks to everyone who has loved and supported me during my challenging times.”
